Democracy Works – Berlin businesses and migrant organisations hand in hand for democratic competence (DeWorks)
The project “Democracy works”, led by La Red, supports democratic behaviour, as well as the challenging encounter of racism and right-wing extremism in the work sphere.
Berlin thrives on a diverse immigrant culture which in recent years has contributed to the growth of the city, the labour market and the economy. Berlin’s economic structure is based particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) -a significant proportion of which are migrant (on the employer and employee side)- and is also driven by international start-ups.
Democracy Works sees diversity in the workforce and the resulting challenges as a foundation for the successful cooperation between businesses and La Red as a cross-community migrant organisation. We support SMEs (migrant and non-migrant, all sectors) as well as migrant employees in embracing diversity and solving conflicts, we promote democratic engagement and address discrimination, racism, right-wing extremism, and conspiracy narratives.
The project offers the following services for free:
For SMEs: workshops and trainings, social media activities, awareness and participation events.
For migrant employees: Multilingual trainings, online and on-site.
The project „Democracy Works – Berlin companies and migrant organisations together for democratic competence“ is funded by the Federal German Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (BMAS) in the programme „Our Work: Our Diversity“ (Unsere Arbeit: Unsere Vielfalt).
